Why Insureblocks?

Hi! I’m Walid Al Saqqaf your host. I created Insureblocks because I quickly realised the misunderstandings and general lack of knowledge that exists in the insurance industry regarding blockchain technology and smart contracts. Having a background in building startups, but now working in the insurance space, I can understand why these misunderstandings have persisted. Anyone who wants to learn about blockchain is faced with all inspirational TED talks of the likes by Don Tapscott..

These are awesome and inspirational videos that excite you on the blockchain potential but don’t always do a good job in explaining it in a manner where you fully understand it. Whilst on the other side of the spectrum you have websites for developers that talk in what is perceived as alien language to most of us in the insurance world who don’t have a background in coding:
var replaceChain = (newBlocks) => {
    if (isValidChain(newBlocks) && newBlocks.length > blockchain.length) {
        console.log('Received blockchain is valid. Replacing current blockchain with received blockchain');
        blockchain = newBlocks;
        broadcast(responseLatestMsg());
    } else {
        console.log('Received blockchain invalid');
    }
};

Finding a middle ground that is both inspirational and informative was difficult and that is how I decided to have a go at building this middle ground for all of us in the insurance space. To achieve this I will be inviting expert speakers from incumbents to the most promising start-ups in London, New York, Zurich and around the world to discuss blockchain, smart contracts and distributed ledger technology (DLT) in the insurance space. However to ensure it’s success this has to be YOUR podcast. It is important that you share the topics you’d like it to tackle. Many of you have already shared with me your favourite topics which you’d like the podcast to cover:

  • 64%: What are the advantages of different blockchain platforms – hyperledger fabric, corda, ethererium..etc?
  • 55%: How will blockchain redefine the relationship between insurance carriers and brokers?
  • 36%: How can blockchain enhance internal processes in your company?
  • 36%: What are the risks and opportunities of insuring companies that embrace blockchain technology:
  • 36%: What is the best way to introducing blockchain into your firm?

These are just some example of the most popular topics. Feel free to vote on yours below or add your own by clicking on the launch me button:

  This is an exciting time for blockchain in the insurance industry. Lets ensure we are all informed about its potential and play our part in determining whether or not to embrace it in an informed manner. If you have any questions or comments feel free to add them below in the comment section!
